My intention is to provide an uncommon quality in bagpipe performance and instruction throughout the southeast and beyond. With over 20 years of experience and having performed the bagpipes at hundreds of weddings, funerals, and events of all kinds, I can confidently say that my performance will exceed your expectations. Whatever other challenges that might arise during your special event, I assure you that my performance will not be one of them.
I live in Chattanooga Tennessee and have traveled throughout the Southeast for opportunities to perform the bagpipes. Nearby cities that I travel to frequently include Atlanta, Nashville, Knoxville, and Huntsville.
The bagpipes are a unique instrument. Due to their nature, there are many things that have to be considered to ensure they sound their best. Things like instrument maintenance and tuning are paramount. The musical prowess and experience of the bagpiper are important. A perfectly tuned set of bagpipes in the hands of a mediocre bagpiper will not be a pleasant experience.
Many people do not realize that the bagpipes are a very competitive instrument. I have competed with distinction around the country at the grade 1 level. As a result, I am in good company, but there are few pipers who can compete at this advanced level.
I take my role in the events that I play very seriously. My inclusion in an event, whatever it may be, has the potential to make or break the experience for those in attendance. My responsibility extends beyond the music that I provide, but also the presence and formal nature of my addition. I make sure to have a professional appearance and posture. My collection of appropriate attire is extensive and is always clean and neatly pressed. I have a variety of kilts that will allow me to color coordinate with others at the event should you like.

Michael Whinery has been the piper for the annual Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans ceremony at our church for several years. Since the first time he piped for us, we knew that we wanted him to play each year. Michael plays beautifully, is cooperative, and is very professional, making sure that he knows exactly what to do and when so that the event flows just as it should. At each Kirkin’, I enjoy playing one organ piece in combination with him on the pipes, and he is fastidious about tuning to the pitch of the organ. We located Michael by a search on the internet and loved what he had posted. One may wonder whether websites sometimes promise more than could be delivered. But, we found that the best part in working with Michael was that he lived up to the posted performances and was even more impressive in person! We needed his help on a very short notice basis for our father’s memorial service and he was very accommodating. We asked him to perform only lively, uplifting jigs instead of the standard funeral marches and he was fantastic. We asked him to join us for the service on a Sunday and the burial on the following Monday. It tied the two services together beautifully. Attendees stated that Michael was one of their favorite parts of the services. We would encourage anyone who wants a bit of the traditional and/or the non-traditional bagpipes for an event to work with Michael. He fits the bill of a bagpiper, both in sound and persona; his performance and professionalism were impeccable. You will not be disappointed!
